The purpose of this course is to train current or aspiring Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV) drivers, whether they are refreshing their training due to an accident or job requirements or just starting out under the Entry Level Driver Training (ELDT) rules.
What is distracted driving?
Distracted driving is a major issue among all types of drivers but is an especially important concern for commercial motor vehicle drivers as it can lead to accidents, injuries, death or excessive property damage.
A driver is considered distracted anytime their full attention is not on driving. This could result from taking their eyes off the road, their hands off the wheel, or their mind off driving.
These days the number of distractions that drivers are exposed to are endless and can include things like talking or texting on cell phones, CB radios, radios, eating, daydreaming, other drivers and so much more.
Within the trucking industry, drivers are considered professionals because they are required to obtain a commercial driver’s license. They are defined as professionals and are separated from recreational drivers because, in addition to the vehicles being more complicated, the focus required to operate a commercial motor vehicle is much higher.
This training for CMV Drivers will help drivers recognize and manage distractions while on the road.
By the end of this Distracted Driving Course, a Commercial Motor Vehicle Driver will:
- Understand the impact of Distracted Driving,
- Recognize and deal with accident factors, and
- Proactively control details that could lead to distraction.
